With a reputation as one of the top winter destinations in the US, Aspen is one of Colorado’s gems for a good reason. There is no shortage of amazing ski valets, snow runs, fishing, hiking and great places to eat. It can be overwhelming for a first time visitor with so much to do and see. 1. Hike the Grotto’s Trail
If you’re a hiker, you absolutely must hit Grotto’s Trail. It’s best known for the ice caves that you can explore if you hike up to them during the winter and early spring months.
2. Grab a crepe at Creperie de Village
If you’re craving some french cuisine, look no further than Creperie de Village. Located right in Aspen, this spot serves delicious Swiss and French inspired dishes and has some of the best crepes in all of Aspen.
3. Visit the Maroon Bells lake
The Maroon Bells lake is a great place for sunset or sunrise photography. If you want a true hiking experience, be sure to check out the Maroon-Snowmass trail and the Crater Lake trail.
4. Ski the Aspen Highlands
If you’re looking for one of the best (and most beautiful) snow runs in Aspen, look no further than Highlands. While it’s very popular, it’s definitely worth spending a day on the slopes here. With beginner-friendly territory and a forested layout, it’s a great place for all to enjoy.
5. Grab a drink at the St. Regis Hotel
After you’re done on the slopes, settle down at the St. Regis Hotel bar for a comfy cocktail and amazing views. This cozy spot sports beautiful architecture and a comfy interior.
6. Eat amazing sushi at Matsuhisa
Many wouldn’t expect great Japanese cuisine in Aspen, but Matsuhisa has top notch sushi. While it is definitely expensive, the experience is more than worth it.
7. Classic Food & Wine Festival
If you’re in Aspen during the summer, this festival is a must-visit. The famed Classic Food & Wine festival brings celebrities and foodies to the town of Aspen every summer. Tickets usually sell out, and hotels increase their prices, so plan early! The best reason to go – all the food and wine you can taste and schmoozing with celebrities.
8. Ride the Aspen Mountain Gondola
From the city center you can ride the gondola up to the top of the mountain to enjoy lunch, play a round of disc-golf, or if it’s the weekend enjoy some music while getting a great view of the area. Single rides are $24 or $21 in advance but they typically have 3-day passes that are discounted!
9. Grab a beer at the Aspen Brewing Company
This brewery has been around since 2008 and produces a wide-range of award winning craft beer. They have a tasting room with live music on Fridays and Saturdays and feature a daily happy hour.
